Peter Pan JR
Upright theatre company, June-August 2026
Roles: Director, Scenic Designer, Scenic Carpenter, Scenic Artist
At its heart, Peter Pan Jr. is a story about the power of imagination, the importance of belonging, and the bittersweet reality of growing up. For this production, I wanted to embrace the playful, storybook world of Neverland while exploring the deeper emotions beneath its magic. From the mischievous Lost Boys to the theatrical flair of Captain Hook and his pirates, our production celebrated the colorful characters and boundless possibilities that make this story so enduring.
Visually, we leaned into a whimsical world inspired by a child’s imagination, using playful costumes, a woodland-inspired setting, and theatrical storytelling to bring Neverland to life. Beyond the world onstage, however, this production reflected my philosophy of educational theatre: the people come first, and the production grows from there. I believe young performers deserve to be treated as artists, encouraged to take creative risks, make bold choices, and discover their own voices. Theatre should be about more than putting on a show. It should teach us how to collaborate, build confidence, and recognize the value each individual brings to a larger ensemble.
Ultimately, Peter Pan Jr. reminds us that growing up does not mean leaving our imaginations behind. The magic of theatre comes from believing in the impossible together, and I hope this production gave every performer the opportunity to discover a little bit of that magic for themselves.
